Attractions worth waiting for at Walt Disney World… Part 1

Ah, Walt Disney World. One of the only vacations on the planet where you will spend about a quarter of your time standing in lines, whether that be for rides, food or shops. It’s the most popular tourist destination in the world, so long lines are to be expected. Most people know they are in for long waits and so just accept the fact. And while this is an inevitable experience, what is important is that you figure out what is actually worth your time. Because after all, time is money at Walt Disney Word. So here are 5 attractions that we believe are worth your valuable time…

1. Flight of Passage

Okay, I’m just going to come right out and say it; this is the best all round attraction I have ever been on. No amount of words in a review or a blog will do it justice so I won’t try too much. I will say that the technology in this ride is next level. It’s a simulator of the future. Gone are the days of those clunky bus type ride vehicles on a big hydraulic arm that do a poor job of making you believe you are actually there (sorry Star Tours).

Following the pre-show you will be led to your ride vehicle, an individual bike type seat that locks you in around the legs and midriff. The ride then begins and the magic starts. Not only are the visuals absolutely breath-taking but so are all the tiny details. From the smells to the feeling of the Banshee breathing between your legs. It’s a ride like no other and since opening on 27th May 2017 it demands lines anywhere from 90 to 180 minutes. There is a fast pass option for this ride but getting one can be incredibly difficult, even at 60 days. I understand that worst case scenario (180 minutes) is just not an option for some people. But if you can, wait. It’s worth it, I promise!

2. Frozen Ever After

Slight change of pace on this one. Located in the Norway Pavilion in World Showcase at EPCOT lays Frozen Ever After. A magical boat ride through the village of Arendelle where you will see some brilliant animatronics of all your favourite characters and beautiful scenery set to the classic songs from Frozen. With a few unexpected twists, like going backwards with a small drop or two, this one is great fun for the whole family. Making its debut in EPCOT on the 21st June 2016 it wasn’t uncommon for this ride to demand a FIVE HOUR wait. I know, unbelievable right? But thankfully this isn’t the case anymore and if you time it correctly you can get on this in under 60 minutes. Once again, Fast Pass is available but not the easiest to secure.

3. Slinky Dog Dash

Located in Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studio’s, Slinky Dog Dash is so much fun. It’s the perfect rollercoaster for someone wanting to dip their toe into the thrilling rollercoaster type ride. Or maybe a child who wants to upgrade from the Barnstormer. It fits a perfect niche as it’s not an all-out insane coaster that’s only purpose it to make you throw up – but it’s also not the tamest rollercoaster in the world. It boasts multiple launches, speeds of up to 40mph and a higher than you think drop. But nothing that will leave your scarred for life so perfect one for the family.

Opening on the 30th July 2018, it’s constantly demanded fairly long lines given its inclusiveness. You can expect to be waiting around 75 minutes for this one but worst case could be in excess of 2 hours. Again, worth it in my opinion. And at risk of sounding like a broken record once again Fast Pass is available, but tricky to secure.

4. Expedition Everest

The world’s most expensive rollercoaster ($100 Million) sits proudly in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Making its debut on 9th April 2006, it’s also the tallest attraction in all of Walt Disney World. So tall that if it was half an inch taller it would need a flashing red light to alert planes!. So wait for this one and that’s two amazing accolades you can boast to your friends about.

As you can probably guess this one is not one for the faint hearted and is very much one for the thrill seekers amongst you. With large drops, moving backwards and high speeds in the pitch black this has plenty of reasons to join that queue! The wait times are also pretty good, go at the right time and you will definitely get on this in an hour tops. Fast Pass is available and one of the easier ones on this list to secure.

5. Big Thunder Mountain

The wildest ride in the wilderness came into town on the 23rd September 1980, and in all that time it’s never lost its magic or its pull. A runaway train style ride with plenty of thrills the family can enjoy. It’s just fun, you’ll find yourself laughing the whole way around and wanting to go on again. It’s a Disney classic, present in all of its parks across the world and there is a reason for that. This one has to go on your list of must do’s if it’s the first time or 100th time. The wait times you’re looking at here can be as high as 60 to 120 minutes but like the others on this list worth every minute. For the last time this post, yes Fast Pass is available and you will probably be able to secure one for at least one of the days on your trip.

So there are our first five rides we believe are totally worth the wait, with the next 5 coming in the next week or so. So if we have left out your favourite, it’s probably going to be on the next list. As always if you agree or disagree with any of our picks in this first bunch please let us know in the comments.

See you real soon,

Josh & Becky.
